“There can be no value in the whole unless there is value in the parts” – The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell
Appreciate the pleasure and opportunity to be able to cook your own meals. Maybe even develop your own recipes. Get friends to eat together, without having a sparkling clean place.
Don’t drive. Walk, bike, swim, skate and take transit. Get active. Use your body. Expose your brain to the complex reality of being alive with other living beings. Notice your surroundings, your community.
Rushing through life to pay for convenience…only to use that “saved” time to be miserable. Why keep playing this game?
Visit places and businesses in your neighborhood instead of buying cheap, replaceable stuff online.
Go through the discomfort of being frustrated and getting disappointed with people. That’s how you grow. Making friends as adults requires effort and yet, it’s better than staying where you are.
Find fulfilling activities to live. Watching stuff is not relaxing – have you noticed?
Active life, not a passive consumer.
Reclaim your health, money, freedom. Choose to not support harmful industries and services. That’s how we fight back against this nonsense that is modern life. It’s worth it.
Friction is good. It’s how we make trade offs and decide to prioritize what is important. Convenience is way more expensive in the long run. You’re going to be here for almost 100 years – learn how to do things yourself, and be a beacon of hope in your community.
Embrace the process. Do things for yourself because it’s what keeps you alive. No one cares about your results, and you shouldn’t either.
Just do hard things, do things the hard way and expect nothing in return other than being alive.
