One day, Roselyn got home and knew even before she opened the door that the cats were hungry. She had been late that day, and the cats have no problem in letting her know how impatiently they have been waiting for her. After feeding the cats and heating some leftovers to feed herself, she noticed there were two other cats in her home.
Two shadows that looked exactly like cats, to be more precise.
They were perfectly-mirrored shadows of her cats: a black cat, and a tuxedo one.
The shadows were below her living room’s table, staring at her. She didn’t know what to do other than to stare back. The shadows didn’t do any sounds or movements, they continued to just stare.
Life got busy, Roselyn continued to get late at home. The days repeated. And the shadows stayed the same.
Days, weeks, months, years have passed and the shadows hadn’t moved a single fur hair. Eventually, Roselyn completely forgot they were there.
One day, she realized she never asked them what they were doing there. On a Sunday foggy morning, without giving too much thought, Roselyn asked the shadows:
“What are you doing here in my place?”
Nothing. Not even one meow. Eventually, she heard:
“We were waiting for you to ask. We are here because we need to tell you a secret”, both of them said at the same time in a meowing voice.
Her years of being a cat mom had trained her to understand their language.
Roselyn waited patiently for a follow up. Nothing came back, so she asked:
“What secret?"
They replied:
“When the world collapsed, the cats divinities had compassion for you. You have been a loyal cat sister and we decided to keep you alive, in a sense. This is all an illusion, so you believe you’re still living your old life on Earth as you know it. We just didn’t understand why you never asked us anything until now and kept going to work even after being brought to the Cats paradise”.
